At the Pawtuxet Farmers' Market: Introducing Early Apples

Here’s an update from the Friends of the Pawtuxet about today’s market.

Early Apples
Apples are just starting to roll in. Moosup River Farm has an early variety for sale at the Pawtuxet Village Farmers’ Market, along with their peaches, blueberries and vegetables. The Friends note that this is the season for freezing and canning fresh local fruit, so consider buying some extra to store for the winter.

Shade Coming
Four tulip trees will be planted at the farmers market to provide shade. The trees, which cost $250 dollars each, will be purchased by the market (using $500 from the used book sale) and Friends of the Pawtuxet (from contributors). Rhodes on the Pawtuxet has given the project the green light, and the Pawtuxet Village Association is also supporting the project. Freshmen from Roger Williams University will plant the trees as part of their community service and orientation program. Be at the market site around 10 AM on Monday, August 25, if you’d like to help out.

Berry Box Bonanza
The market has given farmers more than 3200 berry boxes to reuse this year. That equals last year’s total. The Friends want to thank you and you to please continue to wash and stack your boxes.
