7 Questions for Cranston’s Mayoral Candidates
Like it or not, lawn ornaments are inextricably linked to Cranston’s culture. So a question about the candidates’ preferences in yard decor seemed natural for Cranston Style.
Pink flamingos vs. cement lions. Which lawn ornament do you prefer and why?
Allan Fung : Neither. I am not a flashy person and don’t tend to put up lawn ornaments.
Cindy Fogarty: Easy – cement lions. While I like to think that I am fun and frivolous, I am much more of a traditionalist, much more serious. These serious traits come in handy in a mayor, though.

While the candidates obviously understood the question, others have reacted with some confusion to it – more so than any of the questions on the list of 7. A few people assumed that the two styles of lawn decor symbolize the political parties, with cement lions representing the Republicans and the pink flamingos naturally representing the Democrats. Others thought that the answers might link the candidates to the politically charged Cranston Flamingo-Creche Incident of ’03. Actually I just wanted to know whether the candidates preferred cement lions or pink flamingos.
