Cranston StyleWell, as of today, the first year of Cranston Style has come and gone. A year of rats, hail, a historic presidential election, a changing of the guard at city hall, bus detours, blueprints for the future and of course, food. The list of authors grew to include Zoning Monkey, Floating Deer Head, Kim from Arctic and Peg B. Oh yeah, and officially I think readership is up to four. I’m about to break a blogging rule and post a list of the year’s most popular posts. Thanks you guys – see you on the bus.

10. Fogarty and Fung Sound Off On Lawn Ornaments
One of the 7 questions for Cranston mayoral candidates the Cindy Forgarty and Allan Fung.

9. Zoning for Dollars
Floating Deer Head wrote this piece about the city’s attempt to shoehorn a shopping plaza into a place a shopping center really doesn’t belong.

8. Tangled Lines
RIPTA rerouted bus 22, due to a failing bridge. The resulting detour angered the residents of Garden City.

7. Fogarty and Fung Talk About Taxing the Howard Center
Cranston mayoral candidates respond to a poorly-worded question concerning state-owned land in Cranston.

6. Open Space Bond Referendum Deemed Ballot-Worthy
After a bumpy political ride, the open space bond referenda make it onto both the state and city ballots.

5. Fogarty vs. Fung
Cranston mayoral candidates were asked 7 questions about their city and themselves.

4. Café Bon-Amie
A short review of a café in Cranston’s Stadium neighborhood.

3. Rethinking the Front Yard: Fort Avenue
One of a series of posts exploring various ways to replace traditional resource-hungry lawns.

2. Best Halloween Costumes for Cranston 2008
A series of costumes based on themes from Cranston news.

1. Mike’s Kitchen at Tabor-Franchi Post
The most popular post was a short review of Mike’s Kitchen written by Kim from Arctic.

Cranston is OK

A couple of years ago, someone contacted This Old House to nominate Eden Park for one of their “best neighborhoods” lists. Earlier this year, the editors of the magazine asked me to make a case for the nomination. Cranston made their “Best Old-House Neighborhoods“ list for March of 2010. But... more

Cranston Style: Contributors Wanted

Cranston Style’s second birthday slipped by over the weekend, marked a quiet popping of beer. The site is entering the terrible twos, and to stave off the ancillary tantrums and meltdowns, I’m soliciting for contributions. If you’re interested in adding something to the web site, drop a line. Anything goes,... more
