Snow cover offers a snapshot of the wildlife running amok in the city of Cranston. Every morning new animal tracks bisect the snowy blankets surrounding our houses and become frozen in time, adding to the morse code of tracks from the past.

Here are some tracks from a recent survey of the neighborhood

Grey squirrel.

top: me. bottom: cat.

This looks like a rat. The yellow circle indicates where the animal’s tail grazed the snow.

1. A small rabbit. 2. Another small rabbit. 3. Field mouse.

A number of different sized rabbits have used this path in both directions. Rabbit highway.

Cat.

1. A large rabbit. 2. More rabbit highway.
