Budlong Pool Set to Open. Wear a Bathing Suit.
Mayor Fung has announced that Cranston’s Budlong Pool will open this summer after all. There was some question about the pool’s fate, given the city’s current budget problems. It costs about $200,000 to operate the pool for the season. To help ease the financial burden, the pool’s hours will be shortened. Local businesses have also kicked in some funds to keep the pool open.
The opening of the pool averts what could’ve been an outbreak of indecent bathing this summer. Cranston’s ordinances make it clear that bathing in public waters without proper attire will cost you two bucks:
9.04.040 Bathing in public waters.
No person shall, for the purpose of swimming or bathing, unless properly clothed, go into any of the waters of the harbor, rivers, ponds or other waters lying within the limits of the city. Every person violating any of the provisions of this section shall pay a fine of two dollars.
