Artists’ Exchange Announces 5th Annual Gingerbread House Decorating Contest and Artisan Fair

Cranston, RI –Artists’ Exchange announces its 5th annual Gingerbread House Decorating Contest and Artisan Fair, extended to two days this year, with a newly added advanced competition on Sunday. The event is scheduled for Saturday, December 5th from 10-4pm and Sunday, December 6th from 10-3pm.

Participants start with a graham cracker construction and craft it into a work of art. Armed with thirty minutes and access to heaping supplies of frosting and candy, the possibilities are endless.

Among the weekend’s activities will be raffles, face painting, previews of The Black Box Theatre’s “A Christmas Carol,” and visits with Santa. Artisan vendors will be set up selling their wares on Saturday, offering an opportunity for guests to do some holiday shopping while supporting local artists. Any class registrations processed on the day of the event will qualify for 20% off tuition.

Sunday will see the addition of the first-ever advanced gingerbread house decorating competition. Furnished with more supplies and more time, participants will have the flexibility and freedom to bring their sugary fantasy homes to fruition.

Adding to the excitement surrounding the event will be the unveiling of six newly designed storefronts of Rolfe Square businesses, including Ruth’s Lingerie, Park Senate Barber Salon, Betty’s Candies, Cranston Chamber of Commerce, Artists’ Exchange and Citizens’ Bank. The windows will be installed by RISD students who have designed them as part of a semester-long project. This effort is one of many geared toward revitalizing the Rolfe Square neighborhood.

On Sunday at 3pm, winners will be announced for both gingerbread house decorating competitions. Prizes include free classes at Artists’ Exchange with a value of up to $200, and will be awarded to winners in each age level category. Saturday raffle winners will be announced at 3:15pm on Saturday and Sunday winners will be announced at 3pm on Sunday.

The cost for participating is $11 per house, $15 for the advanced competition. Reservations are strongly recommended. For reservations or additional information, call 401.490.9475. Artists’ Exchange is located at 50 Rolfe Square in Cranston.
